Quilts, WIP, & UFO's plus 2nd Lesson Silk Ribbon Embroidery

Hi everyone.  I have started early this week, now l actually know what l am doing to create a blog.
I thought l would show you some of my earlier work, what l am working on now and of course what many of we quilters do, our unfinished projects.  I will start with my UFO's

Little Brown Bird.  I will return to it one day, just not now.  Here is my work to date.  Its hand painted, stuffed, applique and l have added some silk ribbon too.

Now its WIP.  This is the 2nd of two l am working on.  First is LE, will show next week.  Here is Secret Garden by Esther Aliu a mystery BOM.  I have never made a mystery and this really appealed to me.

This last one is unfinished as l don't know what the final layout is and l plan to use some climbing ribbon flowers.

I really wonder where these blocks will go and how the finished quilt will look...exciting!

SILK RIBBON WORK

Here is one of my favourite pieces from a range from Di  van Neikirk.  They are printed linen and you simply embellish with ribbons or embroidery.  This one always reminds me of the famous Cordoba Balconies.

This is another l made some years ago.  This one is quite sweet, a little girl reaching up to the nest to see the eggs.  Her little jeans are all appliqued in place and l crochet her jumper
Again this one from a range at Di Van Neikirk.  Her hair is made from silk thread

SILK RIBBON TUTORIAL

I promised another lesson, so here is No. 2
How to make a simple daisy and a small rose. Use it on your "N" l showed last week.
Here is where we left it last week.

First l suggest you draw an outline around a very small coin to give you the dimension to work to.

As you can see l continued around the circle working until all the centre is filled, l then added two leaves.  You are using the same stitch throught which l showed you in my 2nd blog, l call it a leaf stitch.

Now for a Twirrelled Rose stitch.  For this stitch you need to work loosely.  However when you twist the ribbon i.e., twirrel it, it needs to be fairly tight, there after work loosely.

Bring your  needle through the material and start to twist it.

Next picture shows tou taking the twisted ribbon back down into your fabric just a tiny fraction away from where you brought it up.
Next picture slowly and gently pull your ribbon till it forms this loose rose shape.
Pull gently a little more and then bring your needle back up through the centre of your rose an then down to the side like so.

I continued to make my roses around the ends of the "N" shape.  It should look like this now.
Good luck, this is a little harder and you may need to practice till you get it just right.

Next week l will show you how to make a Fuschia
